Hi,

You have got it correct. Try running the motors in full-winding first
with the drives set to 2A. If that turns out not to be fast enough,
then run them in half-winding with the drives set to 4A. That will
double your maximum speed.

There is no point in running half-winding if your performance is
adequate in full-winding. The motors will be cooler and you need only
half as much power supply current.
