Hi John:
I've looked over the link to G and M that you sent.
I wouldn't get the Tom Senior; I think it's a lousy choice, even if you can
get a vertical head onto it.
This machine has almost no y axis travel
You need a machine that looks a bit more like the Harrisons on the same
site.
If you can get something in that size range with a quill, even better.
You will get tired VERY QUICKLY, of trying to drill holes by cranking the
table up and down.
Look at the Myfords; they have a small vertical kneemill about the same size
as the Harrison.
I had a Taiwanese clone of one, and it was a helluva little mill. Jet makes
a clone of it too.
3" quill stroke, and 18"x 7" in X and Y.
The whole machine weighed under 900 lb, and was about the same size overall
as the Tom Senior.
I built a lot of accurate stuff with that little mill, and I'm a bit sorry I
sold it, but I ran out of space.
Looks vaguely like a miniature Bridgeport, but the head will only tip side
to side.
No power feed on the quill either, but a fine downfeed handwheel.
Cheers

Marcus
