Hi to the list,
I've had an old Sears/Sherline mill retrofitted to CNC with Sherline's
fine stepper motor mounts for about 2 years. Up to now, driven with
MaxNC's "motion control kit", a 4-phase stepper drive. I'm currently
mounting new 180 oz/in steppers on it and a Sherline CNC rotary table,
and will be driving it with my new 4-axis, Gecko G210-powered driver/PS
(see pix!).
My second project is a 12" x 12" PCB router, Which is presently a
collection of precision ways and zero-backlash screws (all from
surplus). I'll be driving it with the MaxNC kit, after I remove it from
the mill (or, it might even get some temporary Gecko or Camtronics
power!).
The third project (DREAM) is to put servos on my RF-31 mill, and drive
it with Gecko 340's. Humm, I wonder If I can drive an axis with a PAIR
of 350 oz/in SloSyn steppers? Other thought is to try spinning the
original leadscrews with a "daisy wheel" servo.
Misc. RDF antenna projects (HAM) and motion projects have been using
steppers and Cybernetic microsystems controllers, and various driver
modules. Old motion hardware (scrap water phantom parts) uses old
discrete component CW/CCW drivers.
I've also been writing my own controller program (running), which I can
build about 8 different ways. Single axis, 3 or 4 axis, step/dir,
4-phase, CW/CCW. With and without a menu driven interface. Plans are
to drop the non-menu single axis version into a hand held computer.
