commercial setting" This statement has been there from the first day of the
group.
The list was designed to help people build there own control systems, and use
the other items in the list name to help them get a system running. If you
use or chose to modify a commercial grade machine, and discuss the
modification, or ask for help from the list. No Problem. If you make money
with your machines, that is good also. But the business aspect of your
undertaking does not belong on this list. Building or modifying a CNC, what
software, where to get CNC stuff is OK, on the list.
A while back I stopped a thread that was strictly about commercial shops and
questions about running a business, that has no place on this list.
And the group: ** jobshophomeshop-subscribe@yahoogroups.com **
was started by a member, as a place for any subject that is OT here. I
joined and read it all the time. I think the two groups can compliment each
other nicely.
The reason I am so obstinate about stopping OT postings, is that once
allowed, they can never be stopped. We get somewhere around 100+/- posts a
day now, can you imagine the traffic and the deterioration of the group if it
was opened up to anything goes? There are about 30,000 back posts with an
entire "do it self course" scattered within it. If we covered everything it
would be so diluted that it would be hard to find what we do have to offer.
This list from the first minute that I conceived it, was always aimed at the
guy working at home, that wanted CNC machines. It was never designed for the
professional machine shop problems. That having been said, there are many
professionals here that are helping us all out, as well as upgrading there
own machines. I think most of them understand the value of the list as it
was conceived.
Since the start of this group, there has always been 1-2% of the new members
that don't yet understand why the rules are like they are. It is to give
them one single group with just the answers they want, and need, not diluted
by OT subjects.
When there is a disagreement with my OT, post, email me direct, I read and
answer them, and it is from this email that changes are made.
Originally I did not allow "For Sale" on the list, but I was persuaded that
it would be good, if things pertinent to the list were allowed, and for the
most part it has been respected.
There have been some posts of items for sale that were not in the groups best
interest, and the offenders in the future will be so notified.
Right now all new members are monitored until I see there first post, then
they are removed from that status.
If you have questions, please email them direct to me. I would like to avoid
a long thread on this subject.
Thanks,
bill
