Mostly because my chuck is a 1JT mount, Marcus. I suppose I could do
pretty much the same thing doing a Jacobs taper instead of the 3/8NF though
(I'd need to use my lathe spindle then, since I can't rotate my mill
spindle the way I've modified it.) When I installed the current arbor, I
cooled it on dry ice before tapping it home, so it would be nice and
tight...I've never tried to remove it since.
