Randy,

One pretty simple way is to use the 1/2" endmill holder Sherline
sells. Make 3/8-24 threads (to match the chuck) from a short piece of
1/2" drill rod. Mill a "weldon" flat. (brand name for the flat on
endmills) Now you can use the chuck the same as endmills (either
removing it from the holder; OR screwing the holder on and off the
spindle. (since the chuck has a flat back, it will register the same
as it is inserted/removed. However, it will probably require more
clearance to remove this way, compared to unscrewing the entire assy.
