On-topic input--I've finally finished a set of 5 endmill holders (rough
drilled, bored on the mill spindle using a lathe bit clamped in the
machining vise, then finish-reamed,) so I can keep some tools chucked up
and length dialed in with CNC Pro. They screw onto the spindle and against
a hard stop. Now I'm trying to figure out a way to mount the drill chuck
and boring head to the spindle threads, rather than the Morse taper, so
they will also be repeatable lengthwise.
The last thing I need/want to do with the CNC Sherline is buy some Moglice
and cast some near-zero leadscrew nuts. The majority use of my mill will
be surfacing from solid models, and from the talk around the list,
"backlash compensation" in software is not acceptable when doing
surfacing...
