I used Apt for 20 years at Pratt & Whitney. When I first started
nc programming(1978)that is all that was available. Ibm apt on the
370 mainframe. Later on in 1988 the company purchased Unigraphics.
Apt is still used there today(Intercim Apt) as it is very powerful.
Unigraphics is used mostly for complex surface machining(such as
airfoil form dies). Apt is good for families of parts as you can
input geometry as variables(A=5),copy the program & change(A=6) &
have a new program. I retired 5 years ago & got a Sherline, put a
Maxnc control on it & use it for hobby work. I also use Deskam &
Mastercam that I have at a shop that I work 10-12 hours a week. Pays
for my toys. I determine what program to use based on the job
