If you still have the instruction manual try the swing test. Connect a
voltmeter to the terminal A-a , then using a program like deskncfor dos
set in the jog mode issue one step at a time. You should see the output
go from +18 then after the next step depending on if you have it in the
half step mode it should go to 0 then after another step is sent it will
go to -18 ( assuming that you have a 18V power supply on the motor side.
If this is ok then try B-b and repeat. If it works and you see the swing
then the drivers are ok andn you have a problem with your stepper motor
or connections to the stepper motor. If A-a works ok but B-b doesn't
then the L298 is burn out.

Checking the board by measuring Vref for setting the current. With no
stepping, Vref was 0.25, then when the command to move was given,
Vref increased to 0.50. I believe this shows that the logic part of
the board was OK. (BTW it would be nice if the geckos have this
feature for testing)

How does one check the motor part now?

Thanks a trillion
