I experimented with some mid to late-2000 versions of EMC, and did not have
any problems with the motion control part. So, no runaways or anything
like that. What I did have was hangups of the GUI, or the entire Linux
side of the system, so that you had to reboot, or at least restart the
X-windows system. Definitely not a good thing.

I believe this was all related to a particular version of the Linux RT-patches,
and has been eliminated with updated kernels and RT-patch. There still
seems to be a problem with getting it started, sometimes EMC just won't start up,
and you have to keep trying. but, once you get it running, it seems to
work. This may also be sensitive to which motion modules and hardware
you are working with.
