Well, my 'day job' is an electrical enginner working for a group of researchers
doing basic nuclear science research. I do some light machining, and occasionally
design some mechanical parts for their projects.

My home business does some electronic manufacturing, including making copies
of the stuff I design for the day job. I need to do machining for that, making cabinets
and front panels, etc.

I bought a manual Bridgeport mill in about 1980, and an Atlas lathe about a
year later. I did a lot of 'learn by doing', since such a forum as this or rec.crafts.metalworking
didn't exist then.

Since I work at a University that has a pretty big engineering department, there
is a lot of stuff in the library related to metalworking. The best stuff is from the
1950's, but much of what we use today was developed then, like carbide tooling.
