Oh right, someone mentioned drilling holes in the screw? That'd just let the
stuff go everywhere. You'd need to clean the nut up very nicely afterwards
wouldn't you to stop the burrs fowling the screw and making irregularities
in the film? I suppose one way would be to make up a mock screw with a
sharpened end on the thread and run it through slowly to cut the burrs away.

How would you set about converting a standard screw to ball screw? The first
thing I checked out on our school's Bridgeport was what the screws looked
like and they have a square twist like profile whereas the ballscrews on my
lathe are nicely rounded (For the ball bearings) obviously. Would converting
a screw mean opening up the profile for the ball bearings?

Man I'd like that Bridgeport, it's such a cute size. I think it's the LE-1
or something like that. It looks like a normal Bridgport's body but with a
horizontal / vertical milling head arrangement like you'd see on a Tom
Senior or Harrison so it's only chest height.
