Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Interesting, 3 phase in the UK

Hi John,

This doesn't surprise me. I rang and was told it would be no problem and
they would let me know when they were coming, they didn't. The guy came
while I was out. I rang them again and was referred to my supplier who said
it wasn't possible. Rang Manweb and got the run around via various
departments. So rang again and got someone who knew what they were talking
about. The supply was fitted.

They cannot make a three-phase from a single, they must dig up the street
and put in a three-phase cable. If you live in an old three or more floor
house three-phase will come into the property and a single phase is split
off for each floor. Where as if you live in a normal single dwelling type
house in a street of the same type of housing, three-phase comes into the
street and a single phase is split off in groups of three houses. This is
where the cost comes from in the install.

I have a three-phase static converter for sale which has run my cellar for
10 years.

You are on the Wirral aren't you?

Regards,

Terry

| This has become a level more complex. I called Manweb again to ask about
the
| line voltage to be told that the minimum supply they would fit would be a
| 44kVA one and that I'd need to buy the meter and pay £600 - 1000 to have
my
| current line removed and the three phase one put in. This really made me
| wonder after I was told it would be totally free. So I began thinking,
lets
| try the best out of three. So I called again and spoke to someone else who
| again told me the upgrade would be totally free so long as I already had a
| meter in place. They said, I quote "The upgrade fee is if your house is
| totally unconnected, otherwise it's free!".
|
| I don't have three phase running into my house but according to these guys
| so long as I have a single phase they'll make it three phase for nout. I
get
| the feeling they mean they'll cut off my single and use the current cable
| for the three.
|
| Anyone else had this expirience?
