Hi Terry
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I meant a 3ph motor can be in many
cases wired for 220 3ph or 440 3ph; but not 220 single phase. If I
remember right my mill and lathe can both be wired for either voltage
but MUST be 3ph.

Don't get mixed up here between the American 220 volts 3-phase and our
440
volts 3-phase. You cannot expect to run a 3-phase 220 volt motor on
single
phase without some phase shifting and generating the third phase.
