John: Isn't three-phase in England balanced 415 Volts between legs? Each
leg is then 240 V. to earth???

We Yanks have "open delta" which is 240 V. between legs, two of them are 120
V. to neutral, and one, used ONLY as one of the three phases in 3-phase, is
called the "high leg" and is about 200 Volts to neutral.

We also have "balanced three-phase" which is 208 between phases, and any of
the three phases is 120 V. to neutral.

This is, of course, NOT including the 480 3-phase used in vast factories,
etc.
