Hi John,

There is a little loss in power off the back end of the power range. I have
run a Bridgeport Miller, Surface Grinder and a large lathe all at the same
time where the material coming off is blue with the heat. In a home shop you
really don't do production depth cutting because it makes more sense to
preserve the tooling. My motors don't run hot or lumpy because I start a 2
hp idler-motor with the static converter and then all my other machines
self-start because there is the 3-phases.

If you want the machine get it, you'll not regret the decision. I spent 10
years moving heavy to very heavy machines around and it is very easy to do
with a roller and crow-bar. It is just a case of slow and easy and if it
starts to go away from you get out of the way. I don't work will other
people around and a machine is never pushed, it is inched along with the
bar.

Regards,

Terry

| That's as I expected really. But I'll call back again just to annoy them
and
| ask _how_ they'd go about upgrading it to three phase. I heard static
| converters only manage about 2/3rds of the full rating they're specified
| for. This, and the question I asked on moving machinery, is because the
mill
| at school is 440v 3phase and I'm really checking it's okay for me to offer
| them some money for it. There's no point me saying I'll take it only to
tell
| them I can't a few weeks later.
