Down feed on drill presses?

Hello all,

Today I was given a fairly good 5-6ft tall drill press by the guy I'm working for over the summer. The words beaten up don't even come into it. Somehow there is a huge piece of the table missing? :-) Nothing some elbow grease, can of wd-40, deruster, spray gun and scrubbing brush won't fix though. I am going to cast a nice shiney new table and handle for it when I get the time. The major fault on it which makes it annoying to use is the down feed on it has lost it's spring and no longer returns when you let go of the handle. How is it arranged inside? Is there just a spring that pushing the quill back up?

Thanks guys,
John H.

P.S. Erm... erm.... it's going to be a CNC drill press! :-)
