Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Down feed on drill presses?

Hi John;

On many units there is a metal cup on the side opposite of the spindle
handle, which contains a flat spring. The spring hooks the handle
spindle and the casting or the spring cup. If it hooks the spring cup,
there are usually some ears the cup catches on. Be careful working with
these, if the spring gets loose it unwinds with quite a bit of force,
more than one person has been injured by these sorts of springs coming
loose and flailing them. If the spring has broken, the end tends to be
sharp.

I guess you could mill or turn a new cup on a CNC machine :-)

Somehow there is a huge piece of the table missing? :-) Nothing some elbow grease, can of wd-40, deruster, spray gun and scrubbing brush won't fix though. I am going to cast a nice shiney new table and handle for it when I get the time. The major fault on it which makes it annoying to use is the down feed on it has lost it's spring and no longer returns when you let go of the handle. How is it arranged inside? Is there just a spring that pushing the quill back up?
