I can echo a big 'AMEN' to that statement.
I'd also add that, when working in a DOS environment as many of us are, you
might want to eliminate the EMM386.EXE driver and maybe the HIMEM.SYS driver
in your quest for higher rates. My experiences have shown that these drivers
take enough time out of the processor to provide a pulse rate that is not
sufficiently robust (too much jitter as viewed on a 'Scope) to reliably
drive my Sherline past about 900 steps/sec. Removing these drivers and
keeping everything else the same allowed that same axis to run at 4000
steps/sec.

|pulse output of the control program. Too much jitter and/or insufficient
|frequency granularity will do you in quicker than anything else...
