I am midst adding a leadscrew down feed to my drill after deciding to
can the timing gears.
The first problem is that locating the stepper/leadscrew puts it
almost 4 inches away from the axis.
That said, the Harbor Freight mini-mini-mills machines are neat if
you are really limited in space, or truly never plan on any large
projects.
For $299.00 Homier has a mill/drill, MUCH larger work envelope, much
more room to add ball screws, and beffier ones at that.
If you need a mini-mini-mill that may be a good choice, but the old
mini-mill has a larger work space and is not that much more money.
and is R8, not MT2.
Another problem that I keep hearing is that even the 4" rotary tables
use a lot of space, and do not offer much swing. 6" table are better
but crowd the table, 8 inch just won't fit properly.
If you're doing small machining and like the work envelope, then it
maybe a decent choice.
