Hi Jeff,
go for half winding. leave 2 coils un-used. make sure the ends are
isolated from each other, no two wires touching, wire nuts and tape.
If it don't spin, switch a pair for a pair.
once you see it spin, you'll see how simple it is.
Search the list for 8 wire steppers, do it with google as described
in the files section, if you feel like you want more data.
