A CMD-260 is not a Gecko. The CMD has a lot of self protection and will
tolerate shorts and miss-connects on the motor connects. I have not
tried that personally, but the data sheets stated this and I have talked
to people that have accidentally shorted motor leads on them and they
say there was no ill effect other than the drive shutting itself down.

I am not recommending you try testing all the self protection, but know
that it is there if you really screw up.
