Do a Google search for 'plans CNC router' and you will get a lot of
links, very few are free.
As with all things you need to get as much information about the
product as possible before parting with cash. Some plans call for
expensive parts and you can easily end up spending as much on a home
made machine as some of the ready made routers, such as the ShopBot;
and you need access to a well equiped workshop.
Besides your husband's mech fitter expertise he will also have to be
adept at some electrical and electronic work as well and the CAD/CAM
side of it is a different ball game altogether.
I'm not trying to be negative about your idea, just be sure you know
what your getting into if its going to be your livelihood.
