Regarding the example of your hand being up or down brings up the
point I think Hans was trying to make. Earth-common, +5v-common,
ground-common, 460V-common or a modifier to the word to help define
it.
The problem so many of us have, and this list helps on that in a
fantastic way, is that we don't always understand the intricacies of
each trade we deal with. we need to cross pollinate from electronics
for the controls, power electrical for the motor speed controllers,
mechanical engineering, structural engineering and machining all
along with being a diplomat (to get the wife to say OK)
Do we require a point to point wiring diagram ? not really. but it
would help a lot. can everybody read the schematic symbols ? no.
Mariss does a fantastic job in keeping the novice out of trouble with
his Gecko Drives by answering the questions and havign the techinal
papers.
The point of this post is just that often when you hear somebody ask
a question, it is because of some WORDS OR SYMBOLS they didn't
understand. Armed with that knowledge, it is easier to answers some
newbies questions AND to see their frustrations.
I think this topic is off topic, and want to thank the list
moderators for letting it slide as the understanding of the wiring of
a very common part is critical to many of us and this will
(hopefully) edumacate some and answer some questions before they
become duplicatly redundant.
That said, I am closing with the note that there is more on the words
and understanding theme, but that would not be for this list. I'm
not going to post on this topic again.
