connections and signals) and the baud rate on the unit is really set
for 2400, 8, N , 1 on both ends then there MAY be a special data
stream you have to send (prefix) to make the Dyna Myte "wakeup".
Since I doubt it was designed to be a general purpose DTE device like
a modem, it may need special characters to respond. Try a control C
in the terminal program or maybe just a CRLF (Enter on keyboard).
You could try a general porpose terminal program in XP to see if you
can get the other end to respond. Try turning on the echo option in
the Terminal emulator (XP) if you don't get anything. Any mismatch
in baud rate, parity, stop bit or word size will result in gibberish
and normally no response from the end unit. I find that one of the
cheap LED breakout boxes for RS232 has helped me solve most serial
communication problems. You can see the signals and watch the status
lines.
One last thing is to hook up to a working unit if you can get to one
and "sniff" the datastream to capture any special setup commands at
the first of the transmition. If you are unlucky, the guys who
designed the units used their own protocol so that it doesn't talk
simple RS232 ASCII g-code. Once again I don't know this particular
unit but I have worked with a lot of other proprietary systems and
had similar problems.
