Jumping in a little late in this thread, I find that by knowing the
WHY and HOW it works goes a very long way to solving problems.
Being able to hand code a 2D or 3D project of say a D style computer
connector cutout with releaf for washers and whatever may not be the
same completicy as a turbine blade, but when crashing on the software
generated code on the blade, you will not look at it and go blank.
you'll be able to spend the hours to figure out what went wrong if
need be.
I think it is that basic knowledge that puts one a leg up on those
who are at the mercy of the program getting it right every time.
Not only does it help figuring out what went wrong, it helps in
figuring out how best to do it better/faster in the first place.
I certanly never want to hand code spelling the letters of my name on
a sign, and I would never considder doing so, but if the program
didn't run properly, I would feel comfortable finding out what went
wrong becasue I have some small experiance hand coding.
