I'm not sure there is a way to keep a warping pice of metal flat on the grid. My plasma cutter is a drag cut style. That is, it is designed to be in contact with the material while cutting. I didn't like this at first, but I didn't want to buy another plasma cutter, so I designed around it.

The result is a system that doesn't really care if the material warps or not. I built a torch holder that is spring loaded. I run the Z axis down against the spring and set zero. The spring keeps about 2 lbs of pressure on the torch all the time making sure it is always in contact and between cuts I retract the Z axis so the torch does not get hung up in a previously cut area during rapid travel.

My plan was to buy another plasma cutter better suited for the CNC table and a bit bigger. After using the contact cut torch on this table, I've decided to buy a larger contact cut torch.
