That would work well since exact positioning would not be neccessary, just up and down. I have a few electric actuators that would work well. One has a 5" stroke and has a 50lb lift rating. That would be more than enough. They have built in limit switches, so you could easily control then via a double pole relay. The relay could be driven from an IO pin (probably not directly though). Making the pin active would send the actuator one way against the limit switch and making it inactive would sent it the other way against the other limit switch. I forget where I got the actuators, but MSC or maybe McMaster-Carr probably has them. I also see them on eBay now and then.

I've got my machine set up for routing now. I'll convert it back over to plasma this weekend and post some pics.
