The Hypertherm I use has nose cones for such purpose as well, (machine
torch head) but they have 4 "slots" cut in them in order to let gasses
and "Splat" to exit prior to piercing thru. I found that these slots
continuously get hung up on previous kerfs made cutting items just
prior. Without the slots, rumor is that you go thru consumables much
faster as the splatter is bouncing right back up into the nozzle.

Otherwise I too thought about floating it on a spring. If one tried some
other fashion nose cone on a CNC machine, it would be slightly difficult
because it would almost need to be a "tangential" dragging device,
ALWAYS in front of the direction of travel. I know of few (none?) PC
based controls that actually DO Tangential automatically via control
level, though it could be done. Otherwise you need a Cam program that
can place it in the code. I think Signlab can do it because of
Tangential Vinyl cutters.....

Do you experience any problems with Slag and your tips ?
