Medium Density Fiberboard.

Sawdust mixed with glue. Relatively stable unless you get it wet.

Comes in two varieties depending on the sawdust size and (perhaps)
amount of glue. Floor underlayment is the cheap stuff, you can avoid
that.

MDF is available at places like Lowes, Home Despot, etc....

It's a bit hard on your tools, so if you have a table saw, a carbide
blade is recommended.
