Hi Sammy,
A few months ago I helped build a similar pcb drilling machine for the final
year students of a local engineering school. They used drawer channels for
the x, y and z ways. X and Y axes were driven by a couple of nema23 steppers
through timing belts and the z axis was driven by a screw through dc motor
and limit switches. Base of machine was of mild steel plates and y and z
axis channels rested on aluminium brackets. Allegro's 5804B chip was used to
drive the steppers. You can use turbocnc as the controller to feed step &
direction signals. I can send you sketches of the the structure if you wish.
