"LPKF" sells a PCB machine that uses a Laser to vaporize the copper
for making prototype PCB's.

I really like this method and with costs for Lasers dropping, it may
be a viable alternative.

XY'ing a small lightweight lens or mirror or fiber optic, and without
the need for a Z axis, makes the mechanics much simpler.

For safety I would totally enclose the machine, and maybe use a video
camera to view the progress.

I've seen several build yourself CO2 Lasers on the Web.

Is anyone on this list, knowledgeable about Lasers and what it might
take for blasting holes in copper?

I would think this could be a nice part time business just supplying
local students and hobbyists.
