Hi Sammy,
from the start, I would assume you will build a prototype to be
completely funcitional, and in so doing, you will learn a lot about
what is needed and how things can be done easier.
As was mentioned, you can fire a CMOS chip from the parallel port to
control the steppers.
you can make a step and direction driver board from simple parts that
will do full step, and with a more complex chip, do half stepping,
and with a more complex chip, do microstepping.
from my poor metric to english conversions, one mm is about 0.039
inches so 0.1 mm is about 0.004 inches. so 0.025mm is a target
accuracy of your table, with 0.01mm being attainable with more
precison parts.
look at a circuit board drill and it is about 1mm typically so if
your holes are within 0.1mm of where they should be, you have a great
hobbiest unit.
keep us posted on your progress and send us pictures if you can.
we love pictures !
