Most turrets have shear bolts and tapered locating pins. Bottoming the X axis
drive against a still chuck or tail stock will probably not affect this safety device,
but if you catch a tool holder with a moving chuck jaw, THEN it comes into play.
Instead of ripping the toolholder out of the turret and
a sizable chunk of that expensive casting, the turret lifts and shears a
couple soft bolts.
If you are do this often enough to do this, you may also need to learn how to
replace spindle bearings.
However, these kinds of wreaks are usually not without very expensive repair costs.
At the least you will have an extensive realignment of the spindle, tailstock and turrets.
Best solution, don't crash them.
