Hi Randy,
There should be no reason to insulate a DB connector shell from it's
chassis. Unless the cable has a shield that is connected TO the shell,
there won't be a connection anyway. Have you metered your chosen cable
for continuity between both shells?
Both chassis should be at ground (power cord green), and there shouldn't
be any current.
Do you think you're having problems from this? Check on the SherlineCNC
list, there was a discussion a week or two ago about R/C filters on the
input pins to the Xylotex driver board. Jeff specified R/C components
for filtering his board, and Bryan even laid out a PC board for an
inline filter.
