The DB25 shell at the controller box will indeed be grounded, but to the PC
chassis through the cable shell.

The only other recourse I seem to have to avoid the ground loop is to not
terminate the power cord ground of the controller box at all. That I will
NOT do. :-)

Or find a cheap parallel cord with the shells not grounded at all, and hope
there is a shield inside that is only terminated at one end...
