The digitizer probe is just a fancy switch held in the spindle of
the mill. The digitizing just involves the automatic pecking of the
object with the probe in a grid. When contact is made the height
and corresponding x,y co-ordinates are recorded.

I need a timer because to drive the stepper motors you need to send
a train of pulses, using just delay() means I am limited to 0.5khz
stepping frequency (1ms on 1ms off) which leads to slow rapids
between "pecks".
