Sounds good to me. Since your going to be using a dial indicator, the point
of contact will lie somewhere on the surface of a sphere or other geometric
surface depending the indicator point you use. I suppose your going to put
in some sort of routine for calculating the actual location of the contact
point?

Incidently....I was just looking at an ad in a flyer from MSC. they have a
digital measuring unit that could probably be adapted pretty easily to
provide that Z signal you require.
