What you see as backlash comp in the ini is a single value applied
everywhere across the travel of the screw. There is a second way that is
commonly called leadscrew compensation. These axis compensation tables
are created in separate files cleverly named x.cmp, y.cmp, and z.cmp and
stored in the emc directory from which you start your copy of the EMC.
You can reference them in the relevant axis section of the INI that you
are running. That reference should look like this.

COMP_FILE = y.cmp

You can place this anywhere in the axis definitions. There are sample cmp
files in the repository. A typical few lines from a cmp file might look
like.

0.000000 0.000000 0.000000
0.100000 0.100020 0.100019
0.200000 0.200040 0.200038
0.300000 0.300062 0.300054
0.400000 0.400000 0.400000

This sample comps every 0.1 but I believe that you can use any number of
divisions that you wish.

If you are running more than one personality or machine in the same emc
directory, you might name one set of files xmill.cmp and the other
xlathe.cmp

Hope this helps.
