The link I provided earlier, http://www.cncauto.com/knee11.htm shows a
commercial CNC mill vendor who does CNC the knee! They advertise 200IPM
rapids - with the knee! All it takes to move the knee that quickly is
LOTS of power - beyond the needs of the home workshopper but
nevertheless, lots of power = fast rapids. Whether someone chooses the
quill or the knee depends a lot on how they plan to use their machine.
For me I started cnc machining on a Rong Fu ... and quickly realised the
limitations of 5" of Z travel. I still strongly recommend cnc'ing the
knee, but to each their own.
