Yeah you are right. Its 50 mA. or .05 amps for a Gecko encoder supply.

Not quite. 0.05 AMPS = 50 mA; .05 MilliAmps is 50 Microamps (uA). You
will NEVER find an encoder
that works on 50 uA, as it needs an LED to shine through the grating.
50 mA is reasonable, but you
may find some older encoders that draw more.
