encoder

Hallo

i have an small servomotor with encoder disk .
I think it must be from an printer , an works on 12 volt
on the cover is an inscription Beugler and made in USA
on the disk 504 and 02276-20014 , this in mirror
on the ( opto coupler i think ) hp 50 and Q9898 9114.
is there someone who know how i can use this .
Is it not as servomotor , then as a pulsecounter on my small lathe
if i fix an thootbelt on the carriage can i put the belt on the motorax en can count pulses on the moving .
