The bridgeprot repairman said to NEVER EVER run a ball-screw machine
by hand.

the only times he had ever seen the table shoot off the rails and into
a wall were on two seperate ballscrew machines that were being run
manually.

I know of no other person that claims to have seen such a problem, but
ball screws do not have the resistance or self stopping conditions of
ACME screws.
