Not sure - maybe he was getting initial resistance from the servos and
not actually from the ball screws?? I do know he was comparing a
(large) CNC mill to a manual Bport.

it.
I could be wrong.
Conventional wisdom is that ballscrews will have something like 1/4 of
the friction of an acme screw, IIRC.
Of course, you will usually have a ballscrew with a faster pitch than
the acme you are replacing, and so the table, carriage, whatever will be
moving farther for each turn of the handwheel.
