For PCB work, even really poor threads would work. a 40 pin DIP will
have that 2 inch long row all close enough to fit. There are very few
things that have to have accurate coordinates, 99.99% is relative to
something that is close. all caps and resistors are unimportant.

You can compensate for thin rails by attaching them to a bottom frame.

considder making a block to perfectly align your rail and then
drilling holes in it. then drilling holes in a matching support.

the slides would have to be split to match.

and, if this aluminte is any indication, you can pour your own slides
to match.

Also, if you make a dual end on your floating rails. each end mount
is about 2 inches sperated, that will add a lot of support and
stability. the 1-1/2 thick block goes towards that.

but, we are talking beefing up a machine. just the basic one is a
MUST HAVE for every shop.
