Re: SPINDLE INDEX PULSE

Bill,

There is something still unexplained in the behavior of the spindle
index pulse. I guess we need to ask Art (not me, I mean Art
Fenetry). Some folks are running this device at 20,000 RPM with no
problem. I have done tests at 15,000 RPM, and found the device to
work very reliable. And some folks are having trouble running at
lower speeds. There are two known cases to me where the RPMs where
reported as double the actual RPMs, and the problem was fixed by
increasing the slot size. My theory was the debounce was set too
high. It turns out debounce was set to zero.

I have never gotten any complaints or comments about this board till
recently. My guess is that performance problems are more related to
the each computer, and how each computer handles internal timing
issues. In any case these issues are not related to the board's
performance, they will happen with any sensor you would use.

The board itself is very fast and absorbs any noise that would affect
performance. The board is also less expensive than most other
sensors and was specially designed for cnc applications. I has a
shielded cable that brings the signal to the board, so you can place
the board close to the breakout board. That you reduce the chances
of picking up noise. The Mach manual makes a great explanation of the
issues around this implementation, but some issues still need to be
answered.

Please let me know if you run into any problems.
