Do you have a camcorder?
That gives you your telephoto, video output and to boot, you can pop a tape
in to record your procedures for future posterity (or not).
Some of the scuba-diving places sell little bladders that have a window and
you can enclose the camera in that for protection against coolant. You need
to figure out a way to deal with the cables.
A Zip-Lock bag would work too -- if the camcorder accepts supplemental
lenses or filters, you could put on a clear UV filter, then an adapter to go
to a larger diameter and this flange would give you a nice place to glue the
baggie.
Just some ideas...
