Sure. You want to talk to Renishaw about laser interferometers. Keep
hand on wallet
when you talk to them. VERY expensive. This is quite a bit more
accurate than what
you are asking for, but I'm not sure there is anything in between, if
you want to
measure across a clear space. If you can use a linear beam, then
Heidenhain, Sony
and a few others have magnetic and optical tape scales that can do this
very well
for under $1000. There is a tape that is applied to a beam that you
supply, and a
read head, somewhat like on a DRO scale, that traverses the beam.
