Hi,
I have used triangulating laser distance sensors from both DSE (Danish
Sensor Engineering) and from Micro-Epsilon. They both works good but in my
application the NCDT series from Micro Epsilon seemed to do a bit better
that the DSE. It (the NCDT) does a lot better on reflective materials than
the DSE, it's also quite a bit smaller.
However, the range I needed was ~150mm in one case and ~50mm in another so I
can't say what ( if ) they'll do at 4m. They both have software development
kits available so you can interface them to your own software. I actually
managed to get the DSE sensor talking to Mach3 using it's Cypress scripting
engine and did a little scanning - pretty cool.
The price for the DSE was around $5.900 and for the optoNCDT-1700 was
~$5.200.
Hope it helps, good luck!
