2K is a simpler OS than XP, as others have mentioned, it's has fewer
services and shutting these down has fewer undesired effects. It appears to
take longer to boot than XP, but that's just show.
2K will run faster on the same hardware (particularly if it's light on RAM)
than XP. I run Mach on 2K.

well and as fast at 98.
98 was the first Win OS I could get along with.
I'm ordering a Dell for $399 with 19"analogue LCDdisplay
